Construction of the wastewater treatment plant in the Town of Windham, located in Green County, began in 2005. The design of the plant included an extended aeration activated sludge process as well as a continuously backwashed sand filtration system. The wastewater treatment plant is permitted for an effluent flow of 445,000 GPD which flows into the Batavia Kill. In 2010, a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system was incorporated into the treatment plant and piloted for a period of four months with results showing the viability of an MBR system in reducing effluent BOD.  This Plant is operated by Cedarwood Environmental Services.
